Raheem Kareem Reid Remanded for Shooting Incident in Belize City

Raheem Kareem Reid is behind bars tonight after he was remanded to the Belize Central Prison.  The 29-year-old has been charged with use of deadly means of harm against Kenroy Elijio, and aggravated assault upon a police officer. The charged stem from an incident on Sunday, May 14 when a police officer was shot at as he attempted to intercept a shooter in Belize City, just before one o’clock on Sunday morning.  Reports to our newsroom say that the officer, whose name was not released to us, was standing in his family yard through Price Alley when he heard the sound of gunshots.  Shortly after he saw a male person running from Rhaburn’s Alley and firing shots at a group of residents who were socializing near an open lot.  The officer opened fire on the shooter, but then came under fire by a second shooter who distracted him.  One of the persons socializing near the open lot was 36-year-old, Kenroy Elijio of Lucky Strike Village, Belize District.  He was shot and taken to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital where he was treated.  The Scenes of Crime personnel were able to retrieve seven expended shells from a nine-millimeter weapon./
