The Forest Department is fighting fire with fire

The Forest Department is working to improve its fire prevention and protection efforts in Belize’s protected areas during the upcoming fire season, which runs from February 15 to June 15. The department is tasked with protecting the country’s fifty protected areas, which includes the prevention of wildland fires. Each year, thousands of acres of the lush green Mountain Pine Ridge Forest Reserve are destroyed by fire. The Forest Department, through funding from the German Government, has embarked on a Fire Prevention and Control campaign in hopes of dousing this danger. Yesterday, reporter Vejea Alvarez headed out to the MPR to get a firsthand look at how the Forest Department is fighting fire with fire.
