TIDE Executive Director, Celia Mahung wins James A. Waight Award

She has been known for her decades of work in Toledo District and her efforts to promote critical conservation values in the south. For 2023, Celia Mahung, the executive director for the Toledo Institute for Development and the Environment, has been named the winner of the 2023 James A. Waight Award. Love News spoke to Mahung this evening about the significance of this accolade.

Mahung described the accolade as something wonderful, but her work was never to get praises. She insists it was something to develop her community. The award comes about a fortnight when she officially retires after sixteen years on the job. She had this advice for the person who will take over.

Asad Magaña takes over from Mahung starting March 1. Magana possesses a Master’s Degree in International Development and Management from Lund University, SWEDEN and has a wealth of experience in Belize and the region, in project and financial management.
