Tourism Industry Continues to Rebound

One of the country’s economic pillars is the tourism industry, and this economic engine has been steadily rebounding after taking a blow in 2020. With the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic, restrictions were placed on international and local travel to mitigate the spread of the virus; however, this negatively affected many businesses in the hospitality industry. But, the Minister of Tourism, Anthony Mahler, says that in 2022, the industry saw a positive turnout and many of these businesses were able to recover and reach pre-covid levels.

Hon.Anthony Mahler, Minister of Tourism and Diaspora Relations: ” In 2022 for overnight tourism we were about 70% of where we were so we did somewhere around 350,000 overnight, in cruise we were about 50% of where we were so that’s somewhere around 650,000 but this year looks like it’s going to be a bumper year it’s going to be closer to the numbers in 2019 so closer to 500,000 and closer to 1.2 million for cruise.”
