Owners of trucks and trailers that are loitering along the highways can be fined. Belize City Mayor, Bernard Wagner, took to Facebook and posted photos of trailers parked on the side of the road. Mayor Wagner says (quote) “These trucks have been parked on the Phillip Goldson Highway between mile ten and eleven for the past months. Why is the Ministry of Transport enforcement team waiting for a fatal accident to occur? Do your job. One mishap could have a vehicle running directly under these big trucks. I lost my stepson in a traffic mishap on this same road. In that incident, an old bus was parked on the road and contributed to the fatality.” (end quote). Love News asked Minister of Transport, Rodwell Ferguson, how this matter will be dealt with.
Reporter: What about trucks park along at the highway? I believe the Belize city mayor called you out saying that this truck might cause an accident.
Rodwell Ferguson, Minister of Transportation: “I don’t live north, south, east and west. I want to show a picture right there I just passed by 8 Miles I took some pictures and I told my CTO that when I come back I don’t want to see these trucks on the highway. I can show you the picture right there.”
Reporter: But the owners of those buses or trucks can they be fined?
Rodwell Ferguson, Minister of Transportation: “Yes I’m already telling them I am enforcing I said charge them a fee and let them start to move their equipment off the highway so it’s in the process right now.”
