UB Celebrates Indigenous People’s Resistance Day

The University of Belize celebrated Indigenous People’s Resistance Day with a commemoration ceremony paired with a soft launch of an Intercultural Maya Institute. The University’s president, Dr. Vincent Palacio, says the purpose of the institute is to preserve the culture’s legacies and promote respect for indigenous languages.  The day is intended to acknowledge and recognize the survival, struggle and resistance of Indigenous people in Belize. Governor General, Dame Froyla Tzalam, says the inclusion of indigenous culture into the national university’s curriculum is of utmost significance to her.
