Tensions continue to rise in the Belize Elite Basketball League and that’s because over the Committee’s decision to revoke Kirk Smith, Jr’s suspension. (BEBL DRAMA VO) Team leaders are not happy with the Committee’s decision. And, that was showed on Friday night during a game at the CIVIC in Belize City. Western Ballaz had only five players on the court. Spectators say that the players were intentionally missing shots and fouling. They were playing against the Belize Hurricanes which was eventually given the victory- 28-10. Coach Karim Juan told reporters that it was not a protest. He says that team members suffered injuries and that the team had insufficient players. Deputy Commissioner Glen Gill told the media that he was disappointed and surprise at the move. He described it as unsportsmanlike. In a social media statement, Western Ballaz said (quote) “Last night versus Hurricanes we were forced to sit out multiple players due to different injuries. Additionally, the game was scheduled to play on Saturday and we unofficially found out about the date change on Wednesday when Hurricanes posted their flyer. At this time two players were unable to make arrangements with work. We struggled to have five players available for the game.” End quote.
