Man Remanded on Attempted Murder Charge in Belize City Shooting Incident

Twenty-year-old Dwayne Tillett has been remanded to the Belize Central Prison on a charge of attempted murder. Tillett was arraigned in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court today before Magistrate Baja Shoman, who explained the charge was being read but he could not enter a plea. Due to the nature of the offense bail could not be offered at the Magistrate Level, and Tillett was remanded until September 6. The charge stems from a complex event that unfolded on Rivero Street, Belize City on July 3. Sixteen-year-old Jahfeth Stamp had reportedly gone to shoot at a group of men when one of his would-be victims realized what was happening and fatally shot Stamp first. Tillett is accused of retrieving the gun from Stamp’s body and using it in an attempt to kill 43-year-old Aaron Matura. Matura ran for his life and was shot in the leg during the incident.
